Rubicon Theatre Company offers a wider variety of summer theatre camps and workshops for students ages 5 and up. Our programs offer students the opportunity to develop their skills in a professional setting while working alongside industry professionals.

The Stinky Feet Theatre Workshop
Perfect for the fledgling 'star' in your family or the introvert just finding their voice, this exciting two-week program is all about exploring creativity through storytelling and performance. Students in the 5-7 ages group focus on working together as an ensemble while the students ages 8-12 are selected to perform featured roles that are suited to their talent, experience and maturity. The class culminates with both age groups presenting two public performances on the Rubicon stage. This year's production will be the musical We Are Monsters. Tuition includes script with integrated vocal score, accompaniment/vocal CD and show costumes.

Production: We Are Monsters Winner of the 2013 Children’s Musical Theatre Festival, NYC
We Are Monsters is a hilarious new musical that follows human kids into a monster cabaret filled with quirky monster characters. The adventurous humans uncover vegetarian vampires and rock n’ roll werewolves, gradually realizing there may be more to these monsters than meets the eye! Most importantly these monsters and kids discover the importance of friendship and celebrating in the attributes that make each of us different and unique. Run-Time: 45-minutes Themes: Friendship, Diversity
This 3-week camp offers students the chance to expand their performance skills by exposing them to the fundamentals of acting, singing and dancing. Perfect for students new to the stage or those looking for a challenge, this workshop encourages risk-taking and growth with nurturing guidance from theatre professionals. Individual attention, ensemble building, character development and improvisation exercises are used to enhance creative expression, positive self-image and confidence. The camp culminates with a fully produced production of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr. Tuition includes script/libretto, accommpaniment/vocal CD, and costumes.

Production: Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr.
Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first she’ll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.
The Fearless Shakespeare Intensive
This 3-week intensive is a great way to overcome any anxienty you have in performing Shakespeare. Students immerse themselves in script analysis, scansion and verse work, vocal production and character development. Building on the strength from one another and the leadership of professional theatre artists students will form a tight company of actors. Clarity of story is the focus of these productions allowing the actor to bring one of the Bard's masterpieces to life on the Rubicon stage for a weekend of public performances. This year's production will be Hamlet. Tuition includes script, study guide materials and costumes.

Production: Hamlet
Shakespeare's Hamlet begins in Denmark with the news that King Hamlet of Denmark has recently died. The king’s brother, Claudius, has taken King Hamlet’s wife, Queen Gertrude as his new wife thus securing his place as the new King of Denmark. Upon returning from school, young prince Hamlet learns from a Ghost that Claudius poisoned King Hamlet. Thus begins a thrilling emotional storm of indecision, revenge and retribution, deception, ambition, loyalty and fate.
This 5-week program is designed to challenge serious musical theatre students in a professional setting. Perfect for those seeking to pursue a career in musical theatre, this program offers intermediate to advanced training in acting, singing and dancing. With supportive and nurturing guidance this workshop encourages risk-taking and individual creative expression. Personal attention, ensemble building, character development and improvisation exercises are used to enhance performance skills while promoting a positive self-image and confidence, culminating with two-weeks of public performances of West Side Story. Tuition includes script, music, rehearsal CD and costumes.

Production: West Side Story
West Side Story is the award-winning adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The feuding families become two warring New York City gangs- the white Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. Their hatred escalates to a point where neither can coexist with any form of understanding. But when Riff’s best friend (and former Jet) Tony and Bernardo’s younger sister Maria meet at a dance, no one can do anything to stop their love. Maria and Tony begin meeting in secret, planning to run away when tragedy strikes and doesn’t stop until the climactic and heartbreaking ending.

This summer, Rubicon will offer master classes with industry professionals. These one and two day workshops will be lead by leading industry professionals and be offered in Audition Techniques, Acting, Public Speaking, Musical Theatre, College Prep, and Film and Television.
