The Tampa Bay Downs Handicapper serves two different clientele.

The casual player who wants Daily Selections, and the serious player who wants to do his own handicapping but still wants and needs the valuable information offered here.

Daily selections are posted on race days (or sooner) and are identified as Value Plays, Solid Chalk, Longshots and Exotic Plays.  The types of win plays are described below:

Value Plays – are anticipated to provide the best ROI of all the wager types. These plays are expected to have generous odds and a better than fair chance at getting home in front.

Solid Chalk – are horses that are anticipated to win and at paltry odds. They will have you collecting at the window often, but you’ll have to be lucky to stay profitable playing only these.

Longshots – will have long odds, but their chances of winning are expected to be much better than those odds imply. Look for these choices to be in the 10-1 or higher odds range.

I will handicap and offer selections for every race (for you action junkies) but the plays I’m endorsing will be identified as a Value, Solid Chalk, Longshot or Exotic Plays. Selections not referenced in this way will not be counted in the Daily and Race Meeting Results recaps that are maintained and that serve to document my ongoing performance.
